Is “NO” the most dangerous word in the world?
According to Doctor Andrew Newberg and MarK Waldman in their Psychology Today article: The Most Dangerous Word in the World is “No” (This word can damage both the speaker’s and listener’s brain!)
When brains are scanned in an fMRI scanner and the word “NO” is flashed for less than a second, dozens of stress-producing hormones and neurotransmitters are released.
“These chemicals immediately interrupt the normal functioning of your brain, impairing logic, reason, language processing, and communication.”
People may shift into fight, flight, or freeze.
What if someone came to you with a brilliant innovative idea, but you didn’t even take the time to hear them? …it wasn’t there department, it wasn’t there expertise…
How much Money $ could One innovative idea Make your company?
How much Money $ could not hearing One innovative idea Cost your company?
Have you created a system to gather these ideas? Are people excited to contribute to your company? Are you open to listening in a way that you are willing to be changed?
You might say I don’t have that kind of time. Very valid.
So set up a system and culture of YES.
I share a simple 3 minute exercise that gets people to feel and own the power of Yes and No.
Say Yes to Powerful, Playful, and Transformative trainings with me.
